Dorel Juvenile celebrated moving production from a Chinese competitor to the United States, creating approximately 60 new jobs in Columbus, IN as part of Walmart’s 10-year commitment to buy an additional $250 billion in products supporting American jobs.
Local and state dignitaries, community leaders and Walmart representatives recognized Dorel Juvenile’s investment in the community at a special event that included a tour of the 1.2 million square foot manufacturing facility. The expansion will result in an estimated 1.4 million additional car seats manufactured in the US supporting approximately 700 jobs.
“Walmart has made a significant difference for our employees and community,” said Paul Powers, President & CEO of Dorel Juvenile USA. “We proudly support Walmart’s mission to accelerate growth in U.S. manufacturing, creating new American jobs, investing in our domestic facilities and increasing production of Made in the USA product lines.”
Based on data from Boston Consulting Group, it’s estimated that 1 million new U.S. jobs will be created through Walmart’s initiative, including direct manufacturing job growth of approximately 250,000, and indirect job growth of approximately 750,000 in the support and service sectors.
“From car seats to toys, I’m excited to continue bringing affordably priced, high-quality U.S.-made products to our store shelves and online that our customers want,” said Steve Bratspies, chief merchandising officer for Walmart US. “Walmart’s commitment to buy $250 billion in products supporting American jobs by 2023 is having a tangible impact on communities across America. We believe that by supporting American manufacturing, we can help create jobs. That’s great for our customers and the communities we serve.”
Dorel Juvenile USA also reinforced a commitment on sustainability initiatives that are designed to minimize environmental impact. This includes energy management systems to reduce electric, natural gas and water usage at the zero-landfill manufacturing facility; recycling of packaging materials and over 99% of its plastic manufacturing waste; and a recycling program to keep post-consumer cars seats out of landfills, repurposing the materials into other products.
Dorel Juvenile USA represents the priority to elevate America’s manufacturing sector and execute tangible, long-lasting initiatives to encourage continuous growth.
