Dorel Juvenile Donates Products to Flooded Families

Dorel Juvenile delivered much needed products to families affected by the recent Louisiana floods. Many families living in temporary shelters have no safe place for their youngest children to sleep, with many ending up using blankets on the floor. Also, with cars left behind and flooded, new car seats are needed to help young children get safely to urgent doctor’s appointments.

The call for help initially came in from our partners at Safe Kids asking if Dorel Juvenile would be able to get supplies into the flood zones in Baton Rouge. Thanks to a quickly organized effort led by Marketing Communications Manager Jennie Freedman, Dorel Juvenile car seats and play yards were some of the first donations to make it into the area.

Logistics during an emergency of this nature are not easy as many in the area must focus on their own immediate local needs. This leaves them unreachable through traditional channels. Thinking outside of the box, Freedman reached out via Facebook to locate an old friend who had moved to the area. The friend works at Louisiana State University and her husband is active military working at the Veterans’ center on campus. He immediately began working with the school to find a location on campus for Dorel Juvenile to send and store this shipment. Hospital employees were than able to collect items from this central location.

Freedman is grateful for both his help and the efforts of all the employees who teamed up together to help make this urgent delivery of products possible. “I want to thank Michelle Williams, Emily Olds and team for jumping in to make calls to contacts in the area and lining up backup delivery locations. Additionally, Cindy Walls and the Samples Team, Mike Hernandez, Jeff Turnbow and the DC, Operations and Shipping teams for rallying on a Friday afternoon to make sure these items got out fast. The sense of purpose and pride in aiding these families in their time of need is “Care for Precious Life” indeed!”

Dorel Juvenile will be continuing to send supplies to the area and also working with Safe Kids on a rapid response program aligning with our retail partners to figure out a way to get supplies to hard hit areas even faster in times of urgent need.
