About Columbus
Columbus is a growing city of 44,000 people and is well known for its architecture. In 1957 J. Irwin Miller's Cummins Foundation offered to pay architectural firms of their choosing to help with the design costs for public buildings. Starting with public schools, the response to the new buildings was overwhelmingly positive. Miller's firm continued with fire stations and other community buildings. Visiting Columbus, one can see buildings by world reknowned architects like Eero Saarinen, I.M. Pei, Robert Venturi, and more. Columbus has several National Historic Landmarks and many structures of architectural note. Magazines and news shows have both showcased Columbus, its architecture, and its people. Columbus is a growing city, but is proud of its green spaces. There are over 700 acres of parks and green space, as well as over 20 miles of People Trails.
